Streszczenie
The subject matter of the article is in line with the trends of penitentiary, rehabilitation pedagogy, criminology and human rights, posing important questions about the effectiveness of punishing women with children. This topic takes up an important research issue, as it clashes the traditional retributive approach (punishment) with the restorative approach (restorative justice), which focuses on rebuilding social and family ties, which is crucial in the case of mothers deprived of liberty. The article allows for an in-depth analysis of dilemmas such as: isolation vs. readaptation, punishment vs. responsibility. Finally, it raises a difficult dilemma in which „just punishment” (punitive) collides with the need to maintain the mother-child bond (restorative), which is considered a key element of rehabilitation.
The aim of the article is to analyze the situation of mothers and children in penitentiary conditions, to show the differences between the punishing and correctional approaches in the context of prison motherhood and to present the dilemmas faced by incarcerated mothers when performing their duties under the full control of a total institution. The article uses the method of literature analysis and in-depth interview.

Smuggling of Psychoactive Substances into Penitentiary Units and Countermeasures of the Polish Prison Service
Summary
The article examines routes of psychoactive substance smuggling into penitentiary institutions in Poland and strategies aimed at reducing their availability. The study sought to identify key channels of substance introduction and assess the effectiveness of control measures. A qualitative design was applied, including focus group interviews with persons deprived of liberty and individual interviews with prison staff conducted in 16 institutions (four remand centres and twelve prisons). The findings indicate that smuggling occurs mainly through inmates, visitors, correspondence and parcels, staff involvement, and throw-overs across prison perimeters. The most effective countermeasures include personal searches, the use of detection dogs and scanning devices, cell and parcel inspections, as well as preventive communication strategies aimed at discouraging smuggling attempts.
